A rare map of Italy north of Rome marking the routes between the main towns, with distances. It is decorated with finely-engraved sea monsters, galleys and galleons, and two large compass roses. Furttenbach (1591-1667), the author of several influential architectural treatises, spent a decade living in Italy (including a stay at Genoa).
