The extremely rare second state of Mercator's Ireland

Old ink mss. numeral '91' just outside plate.

A fine map of Ireland, orientated with north to the right, with exceptional original hand colour. It is an example of the rare second state which, according to Koeman, appeared in only the English edition of 1636 before being replaced by a new map by Jansson before the end of the year. However this example has no text on the reverse, suggesting it was a special printing and bound in a composite atlas.
