The scarce second Galle plate for Northern Europe used in the 'Epitome'

A fine example of the second plate of Northern Europe prepared for Philippe Galle's version of the Ortelius 'Epitome du Theatre du Mond'. It depcits the mythical islands 'Frisland' and 'Drogeo'.
This second Ortelius-Galle plate is relatively uncommon, only appearing in five editions in as many years (1598-1603). Vrients purchased the plates for both this atlas and the competing Ortelius-Coignet version, preferring to publish the latter.
