An unrecorded state of an early 19th century plan of London

LAURIE & WHITTLE.

A New Map of London.
London, November 8th, 1800? Original colour. Dissected and laid on linen, total; 580 x 770mm.

A rare map of London, extending from Kensington Gardens in the west, clockwise to Kentish Town, Newington, Bow, Blackwall, Greenwich, Camberwell, Battersea and Chelsea. An unusual pictorial title cartouche features a warship, a ruined pyramid, a beehive and the arms of the City of London.
The earliest example of this map found by Howgego was the 3rd Edition of 1804; we have had the 2nd Edition, dated September 13th 1802. This example makes no mention of the edition, suggesting it is the first issue but, infuriatingly, the last digit of the date in the imprint has been obscured when the map was dissected for mounting on linen. There are no obvious changes to the mapping.
